Immersion heater: Is yours working to maximum effectiveness?

28th May 2021

New technological advancements have contributed to the rise of electric heaters in our homes. We can even control our heating with our phones.

When it comes to electric heaters, there are various types, one of which is the Immersion Heater.

What is an immersion heater?

It’s an electric heater that has been inserted into a hot water cylinder which operates by heating water by electrical resistance.

Why have an immersion heater?

One of the main benefits is that even if your boiler is damaged, hot water can still be available through the connection of the heater to the power supply.

Are there any other benefits?

Immersion heaters can be turned off, saving energy and money and can be run off solar panels. Many hotels opt for immersion heaters because they allow you to control the temperature of hot water to all rooms.

What happens if I’m on an off-peak energy saving plan?

If you’re on an off-peak, plan like Economy 7, you can still have an immersion heater by heating your water at night, ready for the following day.

What issues occur with immersion heaters?

Electrical problems can arise from poor connection, damaged electrical parts, faulty elements and thermostats, which all require immediate attention.

What about the costs?

They can be. Many people are wary about replacing their heaters because of the cost but at Safeguard, we have the knowledge and expertise to advise you whether you simply need replacement parts. We’re proud to have saved our clients thousands by assessing immersion heaters and replacing faulty parts instead of installing an entirely new system.
