All business owners have a legal responsibility to ensure their business fully complies with fire safety regulations as defined by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
- How many fire extinguishers do I need?
Most businesses require two extinguishers or at least one water-based extinguisher for every 200m2 of floor space.
- Is there anything else I need to do?
The supply of extinguishers is only part of your responsibility; they must be regularly serviced to ensure full functionality.
- How often should they be serviced?
Your fire extinguishers need to be serviced at least every year to British Standards 5306-6 by a qualified professional. However, if they have been used or tampered with, they should be serviced immediately.
If your extinguishers are older than five years old, you must have an extended service.
- When should I replace them?
After 20 years, you must replace your fire extinguishers.
