Rewire or electrical survey? Ask yourself these questions.
12th November 2020
A full rewire can be a big project, but often they are essential.
If you answer yes to any of these four questions, get in touch with one of our team to see if you need a rewire or electrical survey by one of our experienced, qualified electrical contractors.
1. Are you buying an old property?
If you’re intending to buy an old property that has it’s original wiring, we recommend having an electrical survey to see if the wiring needs updating to the latest standards. For property purchases, Safeguard can provide a cost estimate for you to consider before making an offer.
2. Are you planning on renting out your home?
If you want peace of mind that your property is safe for your tenants, make sure your electrics are in full working order and that you’re fully compliant. This is not a DIY job! For your own safety and for insurance, use a qualified, competent electrician.
3. Have you got new tenants or had existing tenants for over five years?
We recommend having periodic inspections by registered electricians at least every five years and at the start of a new tenancy. After 25 years, many homes’ electrics need replacing or upgrading to meet modern safety regulations. Our inspections will give you peace of mind that your property is still safe or identify whether it’s time to upgrade.
4. Are you doing property renovations?
Before doing any structural or cosmetic upgrades, you should know that your electrics are safe and in full working order. If you require a rewire, then ideally this should be done at the start of the renovation to avoid trunked plastics units attached to the walls to hide electrics, which could have been chased into the wall at the start of the refurbishment.
We understand that there’s no hard or fast rule, so get in touch with one of our team to find out how Safeguard can help.
